(1 1/2 hrs) $10 per student
Max: 50 students

Visit Your Site: (1hr)   $300 first presentaton
$275 each for additonal on same day
Max: 25 Students

Learn the science behind cosmetics and skin care products. Students will discuss the function of skin, examine the process and products used to create the lotions and potions they use on their body. They will measure, mix and mold soap and bath fizz while using proper laboratory skills and equipment. (Out programs require use of microwave and freezer.)

MAD SCIENTIST (States of Matter)
1st - 6th Science Center Visit:
(1 3/4hrs) $10 per student
Max: 50 students

Visit Your Site: (1 1/2hrs)   $300 first presentaton
$250 each for additonal on same day
Max: 25 Students

Explore the states of matter in a creative lab setting.  Presentation allows students to differentiate between solids, liquids and gases.  Children make polymer " Phlubber" and start a crystal garden to take home.  Experimentation culminates in the production of a particularly tasty crystallized concoction, better known as ice cream. (At your site Crystal gardens are demo garden for classroom only).

CHEMISTRY DETECTIVE
3rd- 7th Science Center Visit:
(1 1/2 hrs) $8 per student
Max: 50 students
Visit Your Site: (1hr)   $235 first presentaton
$200 each for additonal on same day
Max: 25 Students
Students perform qualitative tests on common house-hold powders, and on a "mystery" powder.  They use analytical thinking and deductive reasoning to solve the identity of the unknown substance.  Concrete ideas about atoms and molecules are formulated as students participate in this challenging program.

GLUEY & GOOEY CHEMISTRY
2nd - 4th Science Center Visit:
(1 1/2 hrs) $8 per student
Max: 50 students
Visit Your Site: (1hr)   $235 first presentaton
$200 each for additonal on same day
Max: 25 Students
If you like getting your hands into gooey and slimy substances this is the chemistry class for you.  Experience the magic of combining molecules to create new substances.  Participants make glue using milk and other household materials.  When they add additional substances to the glue, something totally different is created!  All materials are included.

PAPERMAKING
1st - 6th Science Center Visit:
(1 1/2 hrs) $8 per student
Max: 50 students
Visit Your Site: (1hr)   $235 first presentaton
$200 each for additonal on same day
Max: 25 Students
Learn how the first civilizations made paper.  Using pulp from old newspapers, participants create, and design their own paper using glitter and other materials.  Recycling is emphasized.  All materials are included.

ICE CREAM SCIENCE
1st - 6th Science Center Visit:
(1 1/2 hrs) $8 per student
Max: 50 students
Visit Your Site: (1hr)   $250 first presentaton
$225 each for additonal on same day
Max: 25 Students
In a lab setting participants perform hands-on experiments that explore the molecular nature of matter.  Experimentation culminates in the production of a particularly tasty crystallized concoction, better known as ice cream.  A yummy experience!  All materials are included.

Summer Internship

A LISC Internship is an exciting, education and challenging experience. Interns must be 13 years of age or entering 7th grade.

An internship is "supervised practical training". As an intern, you take on many of the responsibilities of an employee. You will lean how to: assist visiting families, prepare for programs, demonstrate the exhibits, help in the gift shop and use the register. As a group, you will create a new exhibit for our museum.

If you enjoy science research, if you are creative and have an eye for design, if you feel you can share your ideas with others then this may be the program for you. There is no cost, however, you must
fill out an application and tell us why you would make a great intern.
